Black Eagles made a flying start into their away game and surged ahead after 25 minutes on a penalty-kick from Michy Batshuayi. They had several other chances to add to their lead, but the score remained 1-0 for Beşiktaş going into half-time. Rizespor levelled with Joel Pohjanpalo at the outset of the second half, only to see Beşiktaş regain the lead through 17-year-old Emirhan İlkhan few minutes later. However, Rizespor’s Pohjanpalo went on to score his second goal of the night on 68 minutes and bring the sides back on equal terms. In the remainder of the game, the Eagles regrouped and searched for the winner but, despite being reduced to 10 men, Rizespor defended their goal well to escape with a point.
