Coach Solskjaer and defender Svensson in Europa League press conference

Beşiktaş Head Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and player Jonas Svensson made statements at the press conference held before the Europa League match against Athletic Club:

Head Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer:

"A change of coach means that things are not going very well. I want to change that situation . But the important thing is to plan for the future. We're going to get there step by step. The support I am getting at the club has been very encouraging.

Now, my players will work harder to show themselves. Each of my players has additional features. For example, Svensson is a very good defender, but he can also play midfield. I will try to improve my players and get the best out of them.

We want to create a team that runs and fights hard on the pitch. We need a team that regain possession of the ball immediately and play it forward quickly. I've never coached a team that played slow in my career.

But now is not the time for radical changes. I'm aware of the team's overall system of play. Step by step, we will make changes in our game system.  We want to bring back the true character of Beşiktaş. We will do our best to create that long-awaited Besiktas.

Our focus right now is on tomorrow's game, and our energy is high. We will try to display good teamwork and battle until the final whistle.  When we do that, success will follow.”

Defender Jonas Svensson:
"We're going to play a game in Europe where we need to get that three points. We want to win the game with the support of our fans.

Our new coach and his staff brought new energy to the team. It feels like a fresh start. I hope this energy will be reflected on the pitch tomorrow.

The arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came as a surprise to me as well. Everyone knows him in Norway. I have a photo with him when I was 14 years old. He was a role model for me. It's nice to have the opportunity to work with him in another country."
