-Why Beşiktaş? 

“Besiktas is  one of the most famous clubs in the world.  It is  a fantastic club with a glorious history. Just thinking about the fans tells me why I'm here.”  

-Did anyone influence your decision to join Beşiktaş? 

“I spoke to my Wolfsburg teammate Mario Gomez.  He had a lot of nice things to say about the club. He said: "If you have a chance like this, don't miss it". Stefan Kuntz was another person I talked to. I think he played here 20 years ago. These two people gave me positive information about Beşiktaş.”

-How does it feel to be at Besiktas?

“It's a great feeling. Beşiktaş is a special club with admirable principles and traditions. Everything this club has to offer is really great. I also can't wait to be on that pitch  and celebrate victories with our supporters.”

-How can you help Beşiktaş ?

“Since I'm a defender, I want to protect our net from goals. Apart from defense, I'm also good at the offensive game. I'm comfortable with the ball at my feet and I like to make plays from the back. I want to help my team as much as I can with my skills and technique.” 

-How does it feel to be working with Giovanni van Bronckhorst? 

"I had a fruitful exchange of ideas with him. We talked about his game system and the club. The kind of football he wanted to play here was one of the convincing factors for me to come here."

-Who is your idol in football? 

"I don't think I have a specific idol in football. But I used to like the style of  Puyol from Barcelona a lot.  He's always been a good defender. I always watched him and tried to learn from him."

-What do you know about Istanbul and Turkey? 

“It's a great city. I'd never been here before. I think I came here at the right time of my career.  When I think of Turkey, I think of wonderful people. They are also passionate about football. This is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Turkey. Istanbul, on the other hand, is full of history and is a  very beautiful city.” 

- Do you have a message to Beşiktaş fans?

“I can't wait to be on the pitch and show myself to them. Together with them, I want to be part of that  magical Beşiktaş atmosphere in the stadium.”
