Beşiktaş Sompo Japan kicked off their European campaign on right foot. Not looking so sharp defensively in their Champions League Regular Season Group E opener at the Charleroi, Spiroudome, the teams traded baskets throughout the first two quarters and were locked at a 45-45 tie going into the break. The tight score continued in the third quarter, but back-to-back buckets by Earl Clark in the closing minutes pulled the visitors Beşiktaş Sompo Japan ahead 70-64 before the final stanza. To further their lead, the Black Eagles used Vladimir Stimac’s offensive rebounds and layups in the fourth quarter and came away from Belgium with a comfortable 92-75 win. Clark led Beşiktaş with 20 points followed by Stimac who racked up 19 points and 11 rebounds.
