We are celebrating the113th Aniversary of Beşiktaş JK, which was founded at Serencebey District of Istanbul on March, 1903 as a small town club and had become an internationally recognized club over the years!  Many more years to come Beşiktaş!
 
Led by the brothers Osmanpaşazade Mehmet Şamil and Hüseyin Bereket of Serencebey, Beşiktaş, Istanbul District, the 22 young sportsmen joined forces and formed “The Beşiktaş Bereket Gymnastics Club” on March, 1903. It was the first sports club ever established in the country. Since football was not welcomed by the Ottoman authorities, the Club first engaged in sports disciplines such as boxing, gymnastics, weight-lifting and wrestling. Athletics, fencing and finally football were added to the club activites later on, and its name was changed to Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club (J.K.). Beşiktaş JK is not only the first sports club in Turkey, but due to its wide range of disciplines, a pioneering organization in Turkish sports.
