Eagles wrap up Champions League run with another solid performance

Beşiktaş Mogaz HT vs. FC Barcelona 25:29

Backed by thousands of cheering fans at the Istanbul Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, the newcomers Beşiktaş Mogaz HT ended their European campaign with a home loss tonight, but gained another valuable Champions League experience for the upcoming seasons. Thanks to a series saves from the goalkeeper Yunus Özmusul, they were level with the visiting European giants at 6-6 midway through the first half but then had a hard time producing goals in the remaining minutes to fall behind 14-12 going into the half-time.

Realizing that the Black Eagles - who started the game with only one win in Group B - were no easy prey, the Spanish visitors put their foot on the pressure pedal with long-range shots on target at the outset of the second half, but a series of goals from Beşiktaş Mogaz Captain Ramazan Döne kept the Eagles in the game and did not allow Barcelona to extend the gap. Nevertheless, the European powerhouse used its vast experience down the stretch to walk away from Istanbul with a hotly-contested four-goal victory. Ramazan Döne paced Beşiktaş attacks with seven goals. Despite a slow finish, tonight’s performance has proven that Beşiktaş Mogaz HT definitely belonged to the VELUX EHF Champions League.
