Black Eagles soar higher at Ataturk Olympic Stadium

Beşiktaş 3-2 Bursaspor

Thanks to a seldom-seen late rally in Turkish football, thousands of loyal Beşiktaş fans left the stadium smiling this afternoon.

Despite a spirited start, the Eagles unexpectedly found themselves a goal down after 11 minutes when Bakambu finished off a Bursaspor counter-attack with a low effort. But Beşiktaş got over the shock quickly as Demba Ba, after picking up a neat cross from Gökhan Töre, converted from inside the 6-yard box and brought the sides back on level terms in the 23rd minute. The teams were locked at 1-1 at the half-time interval.

Beşiktaş pinned Bursaspor into their own half in the second half and created numerous chances, but the visitors’ goalkeeper Harun Tekin kept them at bay with a string of brilliant saves. Nevertheless, they managed to take the lead through a thunderous strike from Gökhan Töre just 3 minutes before the full-time. It appeared as though Beşiktaş wrapped up the victory, but a 90th-minute Ozan Tufan goal evened up the scores once again. Refusing to give up, the Super League leaders pushed for the winner one more time, and their dreams came true in the injury time when Demba Ba found the net from a penalty kick and sent the fans home delighted. It was Senegalese striker’s double of the afternoon and his 13th of the season. The thriller kept the Eagles in first place after 20 matches.
