Eagles brought down by arch-rivals in Istanbul derby

Beşiktaş 0-2 Galatasaray

Beşiktaş’ seven-game Super League winning streak came to an end at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium tonight. Even though the Black Eagles looked slightly more active, the teams fought for possession in midfield throughout the first half and failed to create any serious chances that would break the deadlock.

The visitors Galatasaray went ahead through Felipe Melo at the outset of the second half, but the turning point of the Istanbul derby was Veli Kavlak’s 62-minute red card. Despite playing a man short, Beşiktaş stepped up the pace and pushed for the equaliser, only to be kept at bay by stubborn defending and poor finishing. Then, Burak Yılmaz turned the lights out on the Slaven Bilic's men, who dropped to the second place, with an injury time break-away goal.
