Chairman Orman's Message

JUNE 2014

Dear Beşiktaş Fans,
The mining tragedy in Soma on 13 May 2014 has shocked and saddened all of us deeply. On behalf of Beşiktaş JK, I extend my condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and wish them strength in these difficult times.
As one of Turkey’s oldest and most prominent sports club, we think it is our duty to respond to the crisis situations in our country. Keeping that in my mind, together with the Beşiktaş District Mayor Mr. Murat Hazinedar, I traveled to Soma right after the accident. There, I had a chance to talk to the victims’ families and asked them about their urgent needs. To somewhat ease their pain, we donated the proceeds from the ticket sales of our Gençlerbirliği game to the said families. We will also contribute to the Beşiktaş Municipality’s Free-Housing for Soma Victims project to be built in the area soon. Together with you, Beşiktaş JK will spare no effort in putting Soma back on its feet.
This month, our football team concluded the 2013-14 Turkish Super League season in third place and qualified for the Champions League preliminary round. Since the battle for the second place was only decided at the end of the final 90 minutes, the effort put up by our boys throughout the season needs to be applauded. To this end, I thank Manager Slaven Bilic, his assistants, players and, of course, you for an exciting and satisfying season. I have no doubt that, with your support, they will do much better at our new stadium Vodafone Arena, which is going to open its doors in fall this year.
Lastly, I congratulate our handball team’s coach Mr. Müfit Arın, his assistants and players for their 10th overall and 6th straight Turkish Super League title. Beşiktaş JK will continue to take aim at the titles in all its sports disciplines next season.
My best wishes to you all,
Fikret Orman
Chairman of the Board
