The first half was mostly uneventful with both teams failing to put a ball behind opposing goalie. But Beşiktaş started the second half quicker and broke the deadlock through a 50th-minute header from Almedia, only to see Burak Ylmaz equalise for the visitors twelve minutes later. Trabzonspor continued to burst forward after the goal and added a second in the 79th minute when Colaman drilled home from inside the box. The frustrated Eagles were unable to salvage the game in the remaining minutes as they ran out 2-1 losers.
