Beşiktaş 2 – 2 Fenerbahçe

No winner in Istanbul derby

Black Eagles were out of the blocks quickly with their Portuguese midfielder Simao finding the top corner of Fenerbahçe’s net with a bullet from outside the box just after12 minutes. From there on, cross-town visitors looked more attacking of the two sides but failed to beat goalkeeper Cenk Gönen, who kept them at bay with a number of brilliant saves. When the half-time whistle went, it was 1-0 for Beşiktaş.

Fenerbahçe started the second half as they finished the first and went on to level the scores through Alex on 59 minutes. Despite the setback, the Eagles gradually worked their way into the game and recaptured the lead on a 70th-minute header from Almedia. Three minutes from regulation, the home crowd was silenced once again when Christian hit the target from a free-kick to knot the score one more time. Teams tried desperately to add another goal in the remaining minutes but settled for a 2-2 draw in the end.
