Carvalhal: Better days are not too far away

Speaking exclusively to our website, Portuguese Manager revealed his thoughts on Beşiktaş’s season so far.

‘I’m working in a fantastic atmosphere because everyone here is in a positive mood. When I took charge of the squad, I realized we had too many generals, and not enough soldiers, so my first goal was turn the team into real fighting unit. I think we are slowly getting there, and the better days are not too far away.

On the European front, we will do everything in power to qualify from our Europa League group. Our current second place standing is a promising sign. I’m sure the team will show more of their true potential as the season moves along.

Despite a lackluster start to the season, we are presently placed third in the Turkish Super League, only 3 points behind the leader. I personally don’t think we’ll have much trouble making the play-offs. However, our main target here is to capture the title, and all our preparations are geared towards that aim.

Due to late league start, we have already played 7 matches in 23 days and this busy schedule is definitely wearing us down; but there is not much we can do except getting used to it. Another 5-match stretch is coming up between October 15 and November 3, and we need to be ready for it. Ironically, Trabzonspor, the Turkish entry into the Champions League, do not have to play as many games as we do. If the Turkish Federation wants us to be successful in Europe, it should postpone some of our games, which will give us more time to rest and train for specific matches. Unfortunately, our pleas have not been heeded to so far.

No matter what happens, I have a great bunch of lads, who are all hungry for success, especially in Europe. If we can add to our current form and maintain our health, progress on all fronts is no illusion. Overall, I am satisfied with my players’ present performance as they carry out their tasks as planned and improve every other match. With their never-say-die spirit, they will work hard not to disappoint our fans this season because our one-of-a-kind, amazing fans, without whom we cannot keep rolling, deserve the best.’
