Tayfur Havutçu shared some of his thoughts with the press before his first practice as the new Manager of Beşiktaş.
“First of all, I’d like thank Chairman Demirören and Board members for believing in me. Now we’ll do our best to get this team back where it deserves to be. I’m sure all our fans will sport us during these hard times. Our first goal is to win the Turkish Cup, and this week’s league game against Kayserispor is going to be a good test for us. On the other hand, we will try to finish the league as high as possible. We want to make a positive start into this transition period.I had a meeting with the players the other day, and they all agreed me. No one has any doubts about our goals. Unfortunately, in football, if the poor results start creeping in, it is always the Manager’s fault. But Mr. Schuster resigned on his own, and nobody was blaming him. I personally cannot say anything bad about him. As a far as I’m considered, he is one of the great coaches I had the chance to work with. Now, we must leave all that behind and look ahead. The next two months will be full of new challenges so we have to be ready for them.
In fact, we had a strong start into the season and won a lot key matches early on, but then for some reason, everything turned sour. In some close games, the pendulum didn’t swing our way, and we found ourselves in this situation. Football is a kind of sport in which nothing else matters but the result.
All our players know that we have to earn a ticket to the Europe for the next season. I have full confidence in them because they have the talent to do it. I’ve been with this club for 15 years and have the necessary experience so the fans should trust me as well.
When asked if he was going to make any tactical changes, Havutçu was quick to reply:
“I want to create a team that can fight until the final whistle. If you don’t battle hard out there, you cannot win matches. Therefore, we are going to be more focused and will not give up as easily as we’ve done in the past. The fans will see a more fighting team from now on. But we also need time because we are starting all over in some departments”
In regard to injuries, “the recoveries of İbrahim Toraman and İsmail are coming alone fine. We expect to see them back on the line up soon,” added the new Manager.
