Announcement by Mete Düren

According to Beşiktaş Spokesperson Mete Düren, Assistant Manager Tayfur Havutçu will replace Bernd Shuster, who resigned today, until the end of this season.

After an emergency Executive Board meeting at the club headquarters  in Akaretler, Mr. Düren went public:

“Claiming that he could not help the team any further, Mr. Shuster has submitted his resignation to our Chairman Yıldırım Demirören today. Although Mr. Demirören told him that the club management had no complaints about his services and  tried to convince him to stay, Shuster felt he did not have much to offer and insisted on his decision. Our Chairman thanked him for his gesture because, contrary to the circulating rumors,  the club would pay him no severance in this situation.

Beşiktaş Board convened today to discuss the necessary steps to be taken upon this new development.

Since, in addition to 12 league matches, we still have Turkish Cup semifinals to play, we have decided to name Assistant Manager Mr. Tayfur Havutçu as our new manager. He will be in charge of the team until the end of this season. As you all know, he served under previous Manager Mustafa Denizli and have championships under his belt. We have full confidence in him and believe that he is fully capable of taking this club to new heights.”

Mete Düren went on to say that Tayfur Havutçu will assume his responsibilities with immediate effect and lead the team to this week’s match against Kayserispor. When queried about the players’ feelings about Mr. Havutçu, Mr Düren responded, “I think he will be a great coach because everyone on the team respects and loves him. I haven’t heard any complaints so far.”
“As community,  we all have to stand behind Mr. Havutçu during these difficult times because there is only one Beşiktaş. Instead of criticizing him after each match, as we are accustomed of, we must give him all the support he needs. He has been part of this club for so many years, he truly deserves it,” added the Spokesperson.

He also clarified player İbrahim Üzülmez’s situation by stressing that his contract termination was already sent to the Turkish Football Federation and preparations were under way for his jubilee at the of this season.
