Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball lost the Sport Toto Turkish Cup Final, 81-72, to Fenerbahçe Ülker on Sunday.
Fenerbahçe got off to a better start and jumped out to a 4-0 lead on layups by Darjus Lavrinovic and Roko Ukic. After Cevher scored the Eagles’ first points, Kaya Peker and Marko Tomas each hit a jumper to push the yellow and navy blue team’s advantage even further. But thanks to Andrew Ogilvy and Serkan Erdoğan, Beşiktaş Cola Turka found its rhythm and pulled within three, 11-8, midway through the opening quarter. The teams exchanged baskets rest of the way as the yellow and navy blue took a 20-19 into the second frame.Marcelus Kemp opened the second with a 26-foot three-pointer from the left wing to give the Black and White its first lead in the game, 22-20. Fenerbahçe Ülker stormed back in front, 24-22, courtesy of a pair of Oğuz Savaş layups. Mirsad Türkcan followed Terence Kinsey’s dunk with a short jumper to stretch that margin to 28-25 and force a Beşiktaş timeout. A 3-point shot by Mire Chatman after the break tied the score at 28 as the first half of the quarter completed. Then both teams fell into a scoring drought and were deadlocked at 35-35 with 1:30 left on the clock. Marko Tomas and Chatman traded buckets in the closing second as the arch-rivals went into the locker room with a 37-37 tie.
At the outset of the second half, Emir Preldzic got into action and put Fenerbahçe up by four, 47-43 with back-to-back jumpers. Despite a Mire Chatman layup, Roko Ukic and Kaya Peker teamed to make it a 9-point game for Fenerbahçe, 54-45. While the Eagles struggled to get off a shot, red and navy blues got 4 straight points from Oğuz Savaş and Sarunas Jasikevisious to enter the final with minute with a 58-47 cushion, on their way to a 58-51 third-quarter lead.
Riding Emir Pledzic’s hot hand, Fenerbahçe Ülker started the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run that extended the gap to 16 points, 67-51. After Andrew Ogilvy converted two free-throws for Beşiktaş Cola Turka, Mire Chatman drove to the hoop for a layup to bring down the deficit to 12 points. Then the Black and White received two more buckets from Marcelus Kemp and Serkan Erdoğan, closing the margin to 8 points, 67-59 with 3.45 to go. But the Eagles failed to contain Emir Preldzic down the stretch as he single-handedly kept the gap intact with consecutive from allover the floor. The remaining minutes saw the men in yellow and navy blue dominating the offensive board to come away with an 81-72 victory that made them the Turkish Cup winners.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball received its second place medals from Kayseri Governor Mevlüt Bilici, Turkish Basketball Federation President Turgay Demirel and Kayseri City Deputy Mayor Serdar Altıntuğ.
