Beşiktaş Cola Turka 82, Turk Telekom 75

In Week 16’s match-up attended by Beşiktaş Chairman Yıldırım Demirören and Board Members, Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball edged out Turk Telekom 82 - 75 at the Akatlar Arena.

Thanks to a Mehmet Yağmur three-pointer and a lay-up by Ray Wesson, the visitors from the Capital City opened the game on a 5-0 run. The Eagles eventually took control of both painted areas with Andrew Oglivy but could not contain Ray Wesson, who kept nailing from behind the arch. Nevertheless, a 3-point shot by Cevher Özer pulled Beşiktaş Cola Turka within 13-12 with 3:18 to play in the first quarter. Then the Eagles’ Serhat Çetin and Mustafa Abi combined efforts to tie the game at 20-20, heading into the second.
After Yunus Çankaya and Cevher Özer traded baskets to start the second stanza, fast-break points by Mire Chatman and Michael Ignerski helped Beşiktaş Cola Turka pull ahead, 26-25, three minutes into the quarter. From thereon, Cevher Özer stepped in and converted a number of layups that padded Beşikaş Cola Turka’s lead and forced a Turk Telekom timeout. In the closing stages, the visitors rode Sani Becirovic’s hot-hand to remain within reach but were unable to stop Hüseyin Beşok and Michal Ignerski in the lane, as the Eagles took a 43-36 advantage into intermission.
Andrew Ogilvy and Mustafa Abi knocked down back-to-back jumpers to extend the margin to double digits, 48-36, at the outset of the third. To narrow the gap, visitors turned to Ray Wesson’s outside shots, but their turnovers prevented them from erasing the deficit. Then Mire Chatman got into the action and started hitting layups, as the lead grew to 59-46 with 3:05 remaining on the clock. While Turk Telekom desperately sought a lifeline, Mustafa Abi connected on a last-second jumper to end the scoring for the third quarter, 66-50 for Beşiktaş Cola Turka.
Hoping to get back into the game, the visitors opened the fourth with a 5-0 run, but the hot-shooting duo of Cevher Özer and Serhat Çetin kept pouring it in and made sure that the margin remained intact in the early going. As the game moved on though, Ray Wesson stepped in again and launched a barrage of threes, which brought the deficit down to single digits, 75-68, with less than 3:00 to go. But Turk Telekom would not get any closer than that as Beşiktaş Cola Turka fended off all attempts to sail to a well-deserved 82-75 home court win.
