Visiting Beşiktaş women’s volleyball team lost 3-1 to MKE Ankaragücü in the 2nd Round of Teledünya Turkish Cup at the TVF Başkent Sports Hall in Ankara and bowed out of the tournament.
The Capital City team got off to a strong start and jumped out to a 17-9 lead. The Lady Eagles regrouped to tie the game at 22 but still the dropped the set 25-22.The second set was a hotly-contested affair from the opening serve with the home team leading by 4 and 2 points at the first and second technical timeouts. Beşiktaş managed to even up the score at 16-16 before cruising to a 25-21 set win to make it one set apiece.
Despite trailing at both technical timeouts, the Lady Eagles remained within reach of the their hosts in the third set, but a late rally gave the home team a 25-17 edge in the end, lifting MKE Ankaragücü to a 2-1 lead in sets.
Beşiktaş looked more determined in the fourth set as it was up 8-7 at the first technical timeout. But thanks to a number of back-to-back kills, the Capital City ladies bounced back to take the second timeout 16-13. The Black and White gave everything it got for the remainder of the set and even pulled within one point of their hosts down the stretch, only to see MKE Ankaragücü run away with 25-21 set and 3-1 match win and advance to the quarterfinals round.
