Beşiktaş Cola Turka 101, Botaş 88

In Week 9 action, Beşiktaş Cola Turka women’s basketball tripped the visiting Botaş, 101-88, at the Arena on Sunday

With a starting five of Nilay Kartaltepe, Iziane Castro Marques, Yasemin Horasan, Nykesha Simona Sales and Kelly Santos, the Lady Eagles made a strong start as they raced to a 6-2 lead in the early minutes. But the visitors from Adana City regrouped quickly to pull ahead 14-9 at the halfway point. Beşiktaş managed to trim the deficit in the closing minutes but still trailed 26-22 at the first quarter break.
The Black and Whites looked better organized in the second frame as they leveled the game at 35 after the first five minutes. They then played aggressive defense rest of the way and carried a 50-45 advantage into the intermission.
Refreshed Botaş came out flexing its muscle after the restart and tied the score at 50-50 two minutes into the third. Despite a number of three-pointers by Nilay Kartaltepe and Marques, Botaş did not let Beşiktaş Cola Turka ran away with the game and was only down by one, 74-73, heading into final stanza.
Botaş took a brief lead in the early going of the fourth, only to see Marques step up and start drilling jumpers from all over the court that gave Lady Eagles an 84-80 edge midway through the quarter. When the southern visitors failed to contain Marques down the stretch, Beşiktaş Cola Turka used her hot-shooting to sail to an impressive 13-point, 101-88 rout of Botaş.
The Lady Eagles’ Iziane Castro Marques finished with a game-high 36 points followed by Nykesha Simona Seles (19), Yasemin Horasan (14), Nilay Kartaltepe (14), Iveta Salkauske (10), Kelly Silva Santos (8) and Esra Erden Atacan (3).
