Visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball fell 81-69 to the BG Goettingen of Germany in Eurocup Group B game, which was replayed due to referee error.
After Ignerski knocked down a jumper to start the opening frame, teams traded baskets with the lead changing hands several times. Host Goettingen pulled ahead 15-8 midway through the quarter, only to see the Black Eagles rally back behind Ignerski’s buckets to reclaim the lead at 16-15 with 1:30 to go on the clock. Nonetheless, it was 19-18 for the home side after one.James Ogilvy opened the second stanza with a layup for Beşiktaş Cola Turka before hot-shooting Ignerski teamed up with Mustafa Abi to keep the Black and White within reach. But spurred on by a loud home crowd, Goettingen began to dominate the boards at both ends as it went on to establish a 12-point advantage, 42-30, with two minutes remaining in the half. With tired-looking Mire Chatman, who poured in 43 points in the Hemofarm game on Tuesday, under double-coverage, the Eagles failed to respond and were down 45-35 at the break. Ignerski had 12 points in the first half, followed by Likholitov (8), Cüneyt Erden (6), Mustafa Abi (3), Bekir Yarangüme (3), James Oglivy (2) and Mire Chatman (1).
Goettingen started the third with Trenton Meacham’s fadeaway and employed an extremely tenacious defense that forced the visitors to a series of turnovers. Having a hard time getting to the basket, the Egales fell behind 62-48 heading into fourth quarter.
The German hosts never loosened their grip in the final frame while Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s offense struggled badly to put points on the board; as the gap ballooned to 20 points, 73-53, at the halfway point. Mire Chatman got into the action down the stretch and helped the Eagles to trim the deficit 11 points, but it was too little and too late. Goettingen walked off the court with an 81-69 victory.
Ignerski finished with 20 points while Chatman (16), Likholitov (15), Oglivy (6), Cüneyt Erden (6), Bekir Yarangüme (3), Mustafa Abi (3) all contributed to Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s offensive output.
