Visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka women’s basketball walloped Burhaniye Municipality, 73-56, in a Week 7 clash on Sunday.
After Nilay Karteltepe drained a 3-pointer to start the game, Tuğba Taşcı and Kelly Santos helped put together a 7-0 run for the Lady Eagles. Burhaniye tried to stay close with Allyson Hardy’s jumpers but failed to contain Iziane Marques and Iveta Salsauske in the painted area as Beşiktaş Cola Turka opened up a 12-2 lead at the 4:00 minute mark. A series of defensive mistakes by Burhaniye prevented the host from trimming the deficit as the gap grew to 19-8 with 3:05 left to play in the opening quarter. Nevertheless, hot-handed Allyson Hardy teamed up with Duygu Fırat and Mina Maksimovic in the closing stages to cut the margin to 3 points, 22-19, going into second stanza. The early minutes of the second saw the Eagles again pulling away behind the shooting of Nilay Kartaltepe and Iveta Salsauske and pushing the lead to 27-19 after two minutes gone on the clock. But Allyson Hardy and Duygu Fırat combined for 6 unanswered points as they made it a 2-point game at 27-25 midway through the quarter. Beşiktaş Cola Turka answered with a 6-0 run of its own and stretched the margin back to 8 points, 33-25, with 4:05 remaining. From that moment on, Beşiktaş Cola Turka never loosened its grip on the game as the deficit went up to 44-31 at the half.
After Amber Petillon of Burhaniye drove to the hoop for a layup to open the scoring in the second half, the Lady Eagles used the scoring of Iveta Salkauske, Ilziane Marques and Kelly Santos and established a 10-point advantage at 55-45 with 2:26 left in the third. While the home team struggled to get any kind offense going against Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s tenacious defense, the visitors took a 19-point cushion, 64-45, into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Eagles were never threatened in the final frame as they relaxed and enjoyed their lead, which remained at double digits most of the way. Every time Burhaniye got within the striking distance, the Black and White quickly answered with Tuğba Taşcı and pushed the gap back to double digits. When the final buzzer sounded it was 73-56 for Beşiktaş Cola Turka
