Following the Eagles’ 3-0 Turkish Cup win over Mersin İdman Yurdu, Beşiktaş Manager weighed in on his lads’ performance:
“This was a must-win match for us. During the past few weeks, we lost four matches in a row. Coming here tonight, we were under heavy pressure regardless of who we played against. This stress showed itself throughout the ninety minutes. We desperately needed a goal to see the light. If we could score the first, we knew, the others would follow. Because of their strong defending and superb goaltending, we achieved our objective only in extra-time. I must admit they put up an unusually strong resistance for a second division side. As you all know, we’ve lost too many starters to injuries. They are coming back one by one, but they are not in top shape. It will take some time to reach our previous form and performance. Nonetheless, we are giving everything we’ve got out there. We are playing good football but not getting the results we want. I am sure this difficult period will soon be over, and we’ll up there with the best. Our injured player Quaresma, has arrived in Istanbul today. He will start training with team this week. We hope Aurelio and Ferrari recover soon as well because they are among our key players. You all saw what a difference Guti made tonight and he was out with an injury during the past few. We hope to start a winning streak when we are back on full strength.”
