Beşiktaş Cola Turka 94, Turk Telekom 82

Visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball downed Turk Telekom 94-82 in 2010-11 season opener at Ankara Atatürk Sports Hall Tuesday.

With a starting five composed of Mike Chatman, Cevher Özer, Fedor Nikolithov, Serhat Çetin and Michal Ignersky, the Black Eagles stumbled out of the gate and trailed 15-7 midway through the opening quarter. However, they eventually began to cheap away at the deficit with back-to-back layups and managed to pull ahead 18-17 with 2:00 left, en route to a 26-21 first-quarter advantage.
The second quarter was a real dog fight with the score remaining tight until the closing stages. At one point, Turk Telekom battled to within two points, but Beşiktaş Cola Turka refused to give up the lead and used a late rally to take a 47-34 edge into the intermission.
The things got real tense for the Eagles early in the third as they lost their scoring touch and watched their lead dwindle to one point. Despite Turk Telekom’s impressive shooting, Beşiktaş Cola Turka found its rhythm in dying minutes to build a 10-point, 66-56, cushion entering the last quarter of play.
After Cevher Özer nailed a 3-pointer to start the fourth, the Eagles never looked back in the final quarter and cruised to a 94-82 victory on the road to make a bright start into the new season.
