The Manager of Beşiktaş Wheelchair Basketball Mehmet Önüt says his team plans to win both the Turkish League and Andre Vergauwen Cup, whose final will take place in Turkey this season.
In an interview given to our web site, Mr. Önüt outlined the Wheelchair’s goals for the 2010-11 season:“We will face some tough teams in the first 5 games of the season. Especially, our encounter with the cross-town rival Galatasaray will be a real test for us. And then, we play considerably easy games for the remainder of the first half of the season. The key is not to drop any points during these first 5 games. Despite playing without any foreign stars, we are better than last year. It looks as though, Galatasaray is going to be our only rival for the top spot.
Besides winning the Turkish League, we also want to lift Andre Vergauven Cup this season. Last year, we came real close but squandered that chance in the dying minutes of the final. But this season, in front of our own fans, it is going to be a totally different story and we are sure to come out at the winning end. Of course, we cannot achieve these goals without the backing of our fans so they must come to our games and support us.”
The CEO of Beşiktaş Wheelchair Team’s main sponsor Mr. Gökhan Orhun joined in the interview: “We have no complaints about our schedule, but we’d like to see more fans in our games, since they are our sixth player on the court. With their support, we can win everything in our way, which includes the prestigious Andre Vergaugen Cup this season. In the first game of season will settle some unfinished business with our arch-rival Galatasaray, remaining from the last year. We expect to see our fans in the stands in this crucial game.”
