After the match, Beşiktaş Manager Bernhard Schuster stressed the importance of their win:

“We could’ve scored more goals tonight but failed to finish off some golden opportunities.  Yesterday, in my press conference, I picked Porto to win this group. As far as I am considered, they are still my favourites, but this away victory has boosted our chances as well. However, I am mainly interested in making the top two in the group and regard Rapid Wien and CSKA Sofia as our main competitors, which we managed to beat them both. Porto also defeated these teams; so we will settle our differences with Porto for the top spot later on.  For the time being, we are focused solely on qualifying from this group. Tonight, we used a different tactic and relied on long balls thrown behind their defence. We knew they would set up their defence near the midfield, so these long balls created a flurry of chances for us. In Turkish matches, you don’t get these types of chances because defences remain further back.”
