Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball claimed the 3rd Turk Telekom International Cup with a 96-92 victory over the host Turk Telekom.
After defeating Euro League contenders Cibona Zagreb 75-60 and Vef Riga 80-76, the Black and White met the mighty Turk Telekom in the final at the Samsun Yaşar Doğu Sports Hall.The Eagles got off to a quick start and led 23-21 after the first quarter. They continued to dominate the game in the second and were up 46-42 at the intermission. Turk Telekom took over and carried a 72-71 edge into the fourth. The final quarter turned out to be shoot-out for both teams, but Beşiktaş Cola Turka prevailed 96-92 to bring home the top honors.
The Black and Whites received their medals and the tournament cup in ceremony held after the game.
Following the victory celebrations, Beşiktaş Cola Turka Head Coach Burak Bıyıktay talked to our website:
“This well-organized tournament provided a good pre-season test for us. We played positive basketball and managed to take down some of the top teams in Europe. We also got a chance to see where we needed to improve. We are yet to reach our top form, but we’ll be ready when the league starts. This team will be fighting for the top spot like it always does.”
In addition to all these, the Eagles’ Andrew James Ogilvy was named the most valuable player and top rebounder of the tournament, while Cüneyt Erden became the assist-king.
