“Other things on the pitch do not interest me”

Beşiktaş’s new transfer Fatih Tekke gave his first interview to our website:

“I want to assure everyone that as an experienced striker with UEFA and Super Cup titles under his belt, I’ll give my best to help the Black Eagles achieve their goals. I believe this is the right place for me to continue my career and cannot wait to get on the pitch for my debut. I’m dying to show those world-famous Beşiktaş fans that, despite so many years of playing abroad, I’m still the same Fatih Tekke and they will not regret signing me. I am thrilled to be playing back in my native country again and extremely honoured to belong to one of the top football clubs in Turkey.
I know there is going to be a strong competition for a striker’s spot, but I’ll work real hard to meet everyone’s expectations of me. I even plan to rewrite Beşiktaş’s history while I’m here at the club. Just wait and see.
In addition to one League title and two Russian cups, I had won the UEFA and Super cups with Zenit Saint Petersburg.  I consider these achievements to be the highlights of my playing career. But after my transfer to Rubin Kazan, for some reason or another, I was given very little playing time. So I missed real-time football and decided to leave Russia for Beşiktaş. After taking very little time to regain my motivation, I feel like I’m reborn here and blessed to be given another chance to focus on my performance. With the backing of Beşiktaş fans, which has always made a positive impact on a player’s game, I am confidant I can contribute a lot to the team.  That’s the reason why I’m anxiously looking forward to my first match under the Eagles jersey.
I can never accept losing and never quit on the pitch until the referee blows his final whistle. These make me look like an ill-tampered player at times, but they also motivate the team even in the deepest of crises. My five years stint outside Turkey has provided me with valuable experience. First of all, I learned to be a leader on the pitch. This feature of mine alone should help Beşiktaş. Of course, I am also a team player and I’d like to share everything I know about football with my other team mates at all times.
Off the field, I have always tried to be a gentleman; I will continue to act that way here and prove to all concerned parties that Fatih Tekke is worthy of Beşiktaş. Although, I am originally from Trabzon City and was a player of its team for many seasons, I had scored against them many times when I was playing for Altay and Gaziantepspor. I am a professional, and I can’t afford to be sentimental about certain teams. In fact, when I am playing, I only focus on my own game and other things on the pitch do not interest me a bit. Even if the other team is full of my close relatives, it makes no difference to me. I still go out and do everything to win.”
