Following Beşiktaş’s 2-0 home upset by the visitors Büyükşehir Belediyespor, the Black and White’s Manager Bernhard Schuster addressed the press:
“We created plenty of chances at both ends but, due to uncharacteristically poor execution and bad luck, failed to take advantage of them. They played a defensive game and rarely came out of their own half but still managed to hit the target twice. By judging from our own overall performance, I don’t think we’ve deserved to lose tonight.I’d like to say few words about fan’s booing of our striker Nihat Kahveci. He was not the only one who couldn’t convert his chances. He tried real hard out there but was having one of those bad days, just like the others. A true fan should always stand by our players and encourage them to play better instead of insulting when they are performing below par.
To top it all, the pitch was terrible tonight and affected our play negatively for most of the game. I do not wish to talk about the new additions to our team. That’s our management’s business, and I am only interested in the players we presently have on our roster. Tonight, we’ve had a road accident but we will get up; dust ourselves off and move forward. Guti has been with us for only few days and needs time to get into shape. I thought he could use a rest, because he played full 90 minutes in each of our last two matches. That’s the reason why he wasn’t on our starting line-up. In a couple of weeks, he will be an indispensable player of our team.”
