Beşiktaş’s German Manager Bernhard Schuster was jubilant after the Eagles’ 2-0 win:
“It is nice to see that we are getting better after every match we play. Tonight, we not only created a flurry of changes, but also kept them in their own half most of the game. I don’t recall giving away any serious positions. We also kept our defence as tight as possible; because we new what a goal meant in these types of two-legged cup ties. In short, we’ve taken a giant step towards the groups stage of the Europa League tonight, but we are not there yet; we still have one match to play. When queried about the limitation on the number of foreign players in Turkish leagues, he was quick to reply:
“We played with 8 foreigners tonight and they were all great; including Hilbert; he even scored a clever goal for us. He was also quite effective against Villarreal the other night. He and Ekrem double up nicely on the right. It is not easy to part ways with him. There are no such limitations in European football. Having to play with only 6 international players, as required by the Turkish Football Federation, will definitely put us at a disadvantage against the other European teams in our future matches. If they want to bring titles to Turkey, they must reconsider this rule before it’s too late.”
At the end of his remarks, Schuster made some new requests to the fans and Beşiktaş President:
“Quaresma is a star of first magnitude, but right now, he is not one hundred percent and needs constant motivation from the fans. Tonight, you all saw what he could do when got the fans behind him. He will perform much better as the season moves along but the fans should always stand by him. We could also use another striker upfront. I am sure our President will hear my words and find us a technically talented striker in very near future. We still need some time to be in top shame. Just a little more patience…”
