Beşiktaş:3 Viktoria Plezen:0

Powered by goals from Quaresma, Delgado and Holosko, the Black Eagles took an untroubled route into the UEFA Europa League play-offs with a 3-0 second-leg win at home to Czech outfit Victoria Plzen.

Coming after a hard-fought 1-1 draw from the first-leg played in Prague City last week, Beşiktaş started the return match at BJK Inonu Stadium brightly and almost went ahead early on through Delgado and Quaresma, but both players failed to find the back of the net. As the half wore on, led by Petrzela, the Czech team began to play with higher level of intensity and pushed forward more while the Eagles made their presence felt through Quaresma’s precision passes in midfield. But the 31st-minute ejection of Navratil, which left Viktoria Plzen a man short for the rest of the 45 minutes, was the turning point of the game. Seven minutes later, Portuguese star Quaresma sliced through the shorthanded Czech defence and fired bullet into top corner of the visitors’ net to give the Black and Whites a 1-0 lead that would stand until half-time.

At the outset of the second half, Plzen looked more livelier and came real close to levelling the score with Jiracek, but Beşiktaş defence managed to hold together in the last second. On the other hand, the Czechs also continued their over-aggressive tackles in midfield. As a result, they were reduced to 9 men after 51 minutes when Limbersky was shown his second yellow for an illegal challenge on Quaresma. Having two extra men on the pitch tilted the game completely towards Beşiktaş as Delgado doubled the home team’s advantage on 57 minutes. Holosko wrapped the things up with a superb right-footed effort from 25 yards out 19 minutes from time, and the Black and White machine cruised to the play-off stage of the UEFA Europa League with a well-deserved 3-0 victory.
