“We are having a useful pre-season training”

Beşiktaş’s veteran goalkeeper Rüştü Reçber held a press conference at the Beşiktaş’s training ground in Austria and answered questions:

“You cannot compare our new Manager Schuster with the previous ones because every coach has a different style. It would be like comparing apples with oranges. But he and previous Manager Mustafa Denizli have one thing in common: they both want us play offensive football. As you’ll soon see, all our midfielders will be attacking this season.
So far, we are having an extremely useful pre-season training and everyone is fully motivated. Not having any injuries is also keeping the spirits high.
Our new teammates Quaresma, Hilbert and the talented keeper Cenk Gönen will strengthen our line-up significantly. When Quarsma joined Barcelona, he was only an 18-year-old boy. He is now 26 and quite experienced. I am sure he will share some of that experience with us. I don’t think he will have any adaptation problems here, because we like him a lot and are ready to help. Cenk Gönen, our acquisition from Denizlispor, is a promising goalkeeper.  He is going to be at the service of national team and Beşiktaş for many years to come.
I want to end my playing career here. Our goalkeeper coach Zafer Öger has just told me that I can play for Beşiktaş until I am 50. I don’t want to hang around that long; think I will I will say farewell when I reach 48!
I was planning to hang my boots when I was 26, but my brief stint with Barcelona had changed everything. After that unfortunate experience, I decided to play as long as I could.
It is not fun to watch a World Cup without the Turkish National Team. Moreover, the quality of play on the pitch suggests that we could’ve beaten a lot of teams there. We currently have the capacity to play the final in this one but must wait for another World Cup tournament. In any case, I am rooting for that Turkish origin player Mesut Özil who plays for the Germany. I hope, he and his team go all the way and give us some consolation nevertheless.”
