“I want to make Beşiktaş history”

Beşiktaş’s silent Brazilian midfielder Tabata confronted the Beşiktaş reporters in a press conference held at the Black and White’s pre-season training ground in Austria and braved a series of harsh questions:

“We are training in extraordinary facilities which are going to help us get ready for the next season. In these wonderful premises, we are also planning to win everything that may come in our way in the days ahead.
As you all know, we have a new coach and new system this season. We are working hard to adapt to both them, but it sure is not easy, because they are quite demanding. We still need some time to play like we are supposed to. Right now the time is on our side, but we should make good use of it. Anyways, thanks to our twice daily practices, we’ve managed to get in shape sooner than everyone anticipated, and we are all ready for action
Our recent match against Neftçi Baku was a good test for us. In that match, our overall performance mattered more than the score. We all did our best to implement the things we were shown during the past three weeks of training.  I am sure things are going to get much better in the days ahead.
In Schuster’s game plan, every player should make his presence felt regardless of his position. Even a defender, shall perform like a playmaker or score a goal, if required. This season, we are going to be an offensive team with a solid defence. We’ll take the game to our opponent right from the opening whistle and remain in their half until we score.
I’ve just recovered from an injury that kept me out for most of the season. I am working hard to survive the first cut, but it’s all up to our new manager. If he doesn’t want me in this team, I have no other choice but pack up and leave.

Although I am actually a forward, I played stopper last season, a position I wasn’t quite familiar with. This should prove I am not running away from any responsibilities. I’ll do whatever my coach wants me to do.
Last year, the media has had great kick of labelling me as an expensive player, but, due to unexpected injuries, I’ve never had the chance to fully show myself on the pitch. This season, I hope to stay healthy and earn every penny spent on me.
I’ve never planned on leaving Beşiktaş. On the contrary, I want to be part of this great community and make its history with my individual achievements, because I love this club.”
In the end, Tabata had few words about Beşiktaş’s new acquisition, Quaresma, “He is a player every team wants to see on their roster, but he is not a one-man team. If we wish to see him and Beşiktaş succeed, we must give him a hand at all times.”
