An under-manned Beşiktaş went down 1-0 away to Fenerbahçe on Day 30 of the Turkcell Super League. While Bobo missed a second-half penalty, both Fabian Ernst and İbrahim Toraman received late red cards, leaving the Eagles with nine men on the pitch in the critical closing minutes.
In a Week 30 match refereed by Hüseyin Gökçek, the two Istanbul rivals battled it out at Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium in Kadiköy. A small but vocal Beşiktaş cheered the Black and White on throughout the entire 90 minutes. The home side made a brighter start and wasted no time getting on the scoresheet first with a bouncing long range effort from Alex just two minutes into the match. The Black and White recovered from the shock of the early goal quickly but could not create enough clear-cut chances to equalise as the first half came to close 1-0 in favour of Fenerbahçe.
In an attempt to bolster the midfield, Beşiktaş Manager sent in Uğur İnceman for defender İbrahim Kaş, and the Eagles looked the better side in the second half. When Bilica brought down Uğur İnceman inside the box in the 64th minute, the Black and White were awarded a penalty kick but the host team’s keeper Volkan Demirel stopped Bobo’s penalty with a diving save. Forwards Serdar Özkan and Holosko entered for İbrahim Üzülmez and Fink late in the game, but Beşiktaş still struggled to find the net. Then Fabian Ernst and İbrahim Toraman were shown red cards that curtailed Beşiktaş’s scoring power seriously in the closing stages as Fenerbahçe escaped with a crucial 1-0 victory.
