Match Quotes from Mustafa Denizli

In a post-match press conference, Beşiktaş Manager Mustafa Denizli shared his thoughts on his team’s goalless home draw against Trabzonspor:

fore I start I would like to make one thing perfectly clear. The contract I signed with Beşiktaş last week proves that the Club management is behind me all the way. Furthermore, I’d like to draw your attention to the timing of it. It is not signed during the midseason but only a few weeks before the season’s end while the title race is still on. This shows how much confidence they have in me, and I thank them for it. Leaving all legal matters out, Beşiktaş is my second home and I am quite happy to be here. Provided that we are successful at home and abroad, I plan to serve for her for as long as it takes. Besides, if this matter weren’t settled soon, the media would come up with all sorts of distorted stories, which would’ve taken our focus away from the race and affected on our performance negatively. I am glad some of our players chose the same way and signed with the club for the next season. I think, as true-blood Beşiktaş supporters, we had done our part.
If we take a close look at the table, you’ll see there are two other contenders besides us. We will play one of them next week, and our match against Fenerbahçe will pretty well shape the future of this year’s race. But the race is still a tight one and may not be decided until the end of the final week. One think is for sure; my team will not give up until the referee blows his final whistle. It is quite upsetting to lose our top goalkeeper Rüştü Reçber to an injury so late in the season but can you do it is a part of the game. We had to replace midfielder Ernst with striker Nobre to boost our front line. I know it was a bit risky move, but we had no other choice and needed to stay close to their goal as much as we could. Trabzonspor also put up a strong fight and had their chances. The match could’ve gone either way. We tried to pin them into their own half in the second half but also left some gaps at the back. If you are playing an all-out attacking football, you’ve got to take some risks otherwise you cannot score. Unfortunately, our plans came up short in this one and we couldn’t find the back of the net. After Fenerbahçe, we will also take on the League leader Bursaspor in few weeks time, so we still have a pretty good chance to capture the top place. At this stage, we do not need anyone’s help; we can decide our destiny by winning all our remaining matches.
I generally don’t like to comment on referees’ decisions, but I think Trabzonspor defender handled the ball inside the box near to the end, and it was a clear penalty. I am still struggling to comprehend why we weren’t awarded with a penalty kick. I tried to talk to the referee after the game but was not totally satisfied with the answer I got.”
