Beşiktaş Cola Turka 82, Istanbul University 95

In a Week 20 game of the Turkish Basketball League, Beşiktaş Women’s Basketball fell, 95-82, to the Istanbul University Saturday afternoon.

Getting back-to-back layups from Natasha Humphrey a Doneeka Hodges, Istanbul University jumped out to an early lead, but Simone Sales and Sade Zellous team up to erase the deficit and put Lady Eagles ahead, 11-9, at the midway point. Then, the teams entered a stretch in which Zellous and Sales swapped baskets with Hodges and Pen at both ends as the game went back and forth. Nevertheless, 4 unanswered points by Deniz Çolakoğlu helped Istanbul University close out the opening quarter up, 24-20.
After Penn hit a three and Hodges followed it with a fade away jumper to start the second, the lady yellow and black pushed the lead to 9 points at 29-20. Although Kelly Santos and Sales brought the home team’s advantage down to 4 points, an 8-0 Istanbul University run sparked by Humphrey and Çolakoğlu built a 12-point, 39-27, cushion for the hosts midway through the quarter. Beşiktaş Cola Turka tried to trim the margin with the scoring of Nailes İvegin and Sales in the remaining minutes but could not contain the red hot Hodges and Nicole Gant as the first half ended, 52-40, in favor of Istanbul University.
A flurry of jumpers from Mehtap Gezer, Penn and Gizem Yavuz stretched the yellow and black’s lead to 24 points four minutes into the third. Kelly Santos tried to keep the Lady Eagles in the game with a string of layups, but Istanbul University was still up by 26 points, 74-50, heading into the final quarter.
Thanks to consecutive buckets by Sales, Santos and Tuğba Taşcı and a tighter defense, Beşiktaş Cola Turka showed some signs of live at the outset of the fourth and managed to claw within 16 after three minutes. While Deniz Çolakoğlu and Penn kept pouring it from out side for the hosts, Sales, Taşcı  and İvegin each connected from outside to cut the deficit to 12 points with 3:15 left to play. But unfortunately, the Black and White would not come any closer than that down the stretch as Istanbul University walked away with a 95- 82 victory.
