Ankaragücü 0- 0 Beşiktaş

A stubborn Ankaragücü side held Beşiktaş to a goalless draw at the Ankara May 19 Stadium in the opening match of Turkcell Super League’s Week 28.

The match refereed by Barış Şimşek was played out in front a boisterous Beşiktaş crowd, who roared their favourite team on throughout the 90 minutes.
The Black Eagles took control early and created a flurry of clear-cut chances but could not beat keeper Serkan. As the half wore on, the home side managed to balance the game with dangerous attacks from both flanks, only to see the first 45 minutes conclude in a goalless draw.
Both teams continued to battle for the lead in the second half as the intensity and tempo increased. Meanwhile, the Eagle’s keeper Rüçtü Reçber put in another superb effort in the net and kept Ankaragücü forwards at bay. Beşiktaş Manager Mustafa Denizli replaced Necip Uysal and Uğur Şimşek with offensive midfielders Serdar Özkan and Yusuf Şimşek late in the game to bolster his team’s front line. The tactic paid off with the Eagles coming close to breaking the deadlock on a couple of occasions. In one of them, while the keeper Serkan stood still and watched, Bobo’s 80th –minute shot hit the post and went just wide.
Despite an obvious superiority, the remaining minutes saw the Black and White fail to find a gap in the home side’s solid defence and change the score in their favour. Ten minutes after İsmail Köybaşı entered for İbrahim Üzülmez, the teams shared the points. The draw raised Beşiktaş’s point tally to 56 and kept them temporarily in the second place, pending the results of other fixtures.
