After Beşiktaş’s 3-2 win against Eskişehirspor, Beşiktaş Manager Mustafa Denizli reflected on the match:
“Coming into this match, we desperately needed three points to stay in the title race; so this was a must-win match for us. If we want to finish atop the table, we cannot afford any slip-ups at this stage, especially on our turf. Despite falling behind by two early goals, we never lost hope or game discipline and did everything to win. Had we converted our chances, we could’ve wrapped this one up even in the first half. But their goalkeeper’s performance and our poor finishing prevented us from getting on the scoresheet. If you are playing with a higher tempo than your opponent, you should not worry about scoring goals. Even if they score first, you know you are going to comeback and finish on a high note. As long as we score more goals than our opponents we are not too much concerned about conceding goals. But we still need to find a way to limit them because their numbers have been on the rise lately. Besides, had they gone up 3-0 in this match, it would’ve been real difficult for us to comeback, even though I’ve seen many 4-3 matches in my time. In short, we can say that our push towards the title has begun. We are going to score more than we concede; that’s our philosophy for the coming weeks. We don’t care who wins this week’s derby between our two rivals because we are solely focused on our own matches. Anything might happen in the weeks ahead. No one thought the league-leading Bursaspor would drop three points to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality this week. We will deal with each match separately and try to hold our destiny in our hands.”
