Ferrari Condemns Article

Beşiktaş’s Italian defender Matteo Ferrari denounced the story published in an Italian newspaper about him.

Ferrari held a news conference at the BJK Nevzat Demir Facilities this morning and denied the rumours published in the popular Italian daily La Gazetta Dello Sport concerning his private life in Istanbul.

After pointing out that he never gave an interview to such a Turkish reporter as stated in the paper, Ferrari explained:

“The article claims that I’ve been having repeated arguments with Beşiktaş Manager Mustafa Denizli over my nightlife in Istanbul. It then goes on list a number of events which have hurt the team in the past and damaged team unity. Let me clarify for all of you once and for all, no such things have ever happened and they are nothing but a bunch of lies. Besides, I don’t want to be remembered with my private life. Everyone should judge me according to the quality of football I play.
I addition to all these, Mr. Mete Düren, the Deputy Chairman and Club Spokesperson have never told me that the management was preparing to lay a record fine on me if I did not pay attention to their warnings. I am not a child; I know what I’m doing, and I would never engage in any activity that would end up hurting my team.”
A Deliberate Attempt to Hurt Our Team

According to Ferrari, the article is part of a campaign intended to damage Beşiktaş’s title hopes this season. “They are trying to play some dirty games over our club through me. But we know who they are, and we are not going let them realize their goals. Since my first day in Turkey, they’ve been fabricating stories about me. I’ve never bothered to take time and refute them. These people may criticise my play, but they cannot write that I spend most of time together with the players of our main rivals in hotel rooms,” said the Italian.
On the Loss of His Driver’s License
When quizzed about the suspension of his driver’s license Beşiktaş’s Italian Defender Ferrari responded: “After our match against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, I went to Ortaköy to eat with a couple friends. There, I had only two glasses of wine, an acceptable limit in Italy. Soon after I left the restaurant past midnight, I was stopped by the traffic police and subjected to an alcohol breathalyser test. I was told my blood alcohol concentration was 0.52, slightly over the legally allowed limit of 0.50. Then my driver’s license was taken away. If you don’t believe me you can always go to the police and ask for the records. Simple is that, and I don’t see anything abnormal about it.
In regard to his manager’s complaints about the delayed payments at the club, Ferrari clarified, “I called my manager this morning, and he told me he did not talked to any Turkish reporter about my finances. The whole article is full of lies. They want to demoralise and affect my performance on the pitch, but they will not succeed.”
