The visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball pulled out an 88-79 victory over the Bornova Municipality at Halkapınar Sports Hall in Week 22 of the Turkish basketball season.
The game started with both teams coming out firing. They stayed neck and neck until a late spurt gave the Bornova Municipality a slim 22-21 advantage going into the second. While the Black Eagles looked better under the boards, the green and white host relied on Shipp’s outside shots to keep the score tight. As a result, the teams were locked at 29-29 midway through the second stanza. But consecutive three-pointers by Cevher Özer sparked a late Beşiktaş Cola Turka rally that put the Black and White ahead, 39-34, before trotting into the locker room at the intermission. The flying Black Eagles opened the second half with back-to-back three-pointers and pushed the margin to 10-points, 48-38, after three minutes. But the green and whites refused to give up; as they used the hot-hand of Shipp to jump back in front, 56-55, entering the final minute. Nevertheless, a buzzer-beater 3-point shot from Brad Newley lifted the Black and White to a 60-58 lead, with one quarter left to play. After Adem Ören and Engin Atsür each hit three-pointers to start the final frame, the Black and White took complete control of the game at both ends and fended off all Bornova Municipality’s comeback attempts on its way to an 88-79 road win.
While the home team’s star player Shipp led all scorers with 34 points, Engin Atsür (26), Brad Newley (20), Adem Ören (10), Cevher Özer (8), Perry (8), Haluk Yıldırım (6), Likholitov (5), and Muratcan Güler (5) all contributed to the scoring of Beşiktaş Cola Turka.
