In a postponed match of the Day 18, the Black and White beat the Büyükşehir Belediyespor 2-0 at BJK İnönü Stadium and edged closer to the top.
Entering the pitch with a special banner that shared the pain and sorrow of the recent Chile and Elazıg earthquake victims, both teams observed a one-minute pre-game silence in memory of those who lost their lives. The teams got off to a cautious start and battled for the supremacy in midfield early on. In a bid to secure at least a point, the visiting side kept their defence crowded and relied only on fast counter-attacks to score. As the match marched on, thanks to a series of dangerous looking attacks initiated by Tello, the Black Eagles gained control and came close to scoring on two occasions, but Büyükşehir goalkeeper Hasagiç denied both Ekrem and Tello with brilliant saves. Nevertheless, Beşiktaş did manage to shatter the stubborn defence of the visitors in the 43rd minute when Bobo took a great pass from the veteran İbrahim Üzülmez and found the back of the net with a clever flick over diving Hasagiç to put the Black and White a goal up and send the home crowd into rapture. The first half ended 1-0 to Beşiktaş.
The Eagles kept up the pressure at the outset of the second half until Büyükşehir Belediyespor brought on the speedy forward Nsumbu for Efe and began to push forward for the equaliser. But the visitors’ hopes of a comeback evaporated when Holosko doubled the home team’s lead on 62 minutes during a fast-paced counter-attack. Beşiktaş took the reins of the match from that point on and played out the remaining minutes to run out 2-0 winners with another valuable three points.
