Beşiktaş 1 – 1 Galatasaray

Beşiktaş and cross-town rival Galatasaray played out a 1-1 draw at the BJK İnönü Stadium on Matchday 22 of the Turkcell Super League. The Black Eagles’ goal came from Sivok on 82 minutes.

The Istanbul derby was refereed by Fırat Aydınus while a packed Beşiktaş crowd cheered the Black and White on throughout the 90 minutes.

The match got underway with both sides attacking at every opportunity, and both keepers having plenty to do. In the closing minutes of the first half, Holosko and Nobre both came close to breaking the deadlock for Beşiktaş, but on each occasion their close-range headers just missed the target. The first 45 minutes ended goalless.
Both teams were more cautious in the second half and fought hard not give much away. At the 61-minute mark, strikers Bobo and Nihat came in for Holosko and Nobre to add more firepower to Beşiktaş’s frontline. But seven minutes later, Arda unexpectedly put the visitors ahead with a low drive from inside the box. Despite the late goal, the Eagles refused to lie down and brought on veteran Yusuf Şimşek for defensive midfielder Ekrem Dağ in the 75th minute to up the tempo for that much needed equaliser. Beşiktaş’s relentless pressure would finally pay off when Sivok found the back of the net with clever finish during a goalmouth scramble eight minutes from time. Teams failed to change the course of the match in the remaining minutes as they settled for 1-1 draw.
