Gaziantepspor 2 – 0 Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Gaziantepspor at Kamil Ocak Stadium on Matchday 21 of the Turkish Super League. The Eagles came out to the pitch with a banner that celebrated the 85th Anniversary of the Turkish Aeronautical Association.

The match started with both sides concentrating on defence and playing fast-paced, counter attacking football to get on the scoresheet. Relentless attacks down the left would pay dividends in a big way for Gaziantepspor as Julio Cesar tucked in an excellent 11th minute cross by Olcan from the same flank to put his team up 1-0. Searching for a quick equaliser, the Black and White took the game to Gaziantepspor after the goal; but despite a few meagre attacks initiated by Tabata, were unable to break through the home side’s dogged defence. In the closing stages of the first half, the hosts had several chances to further their lead with Julio Cesar squandering all of them. Gaziantep enjoyed a one-goal advantage at the interval.
Beşiktaş brought on midfielder Yusuf for defender İsmail at the start of the second half to stir the things up but could not display the kind of fast, flowing football which had become their trademark in recent years. They conceded a second goal when Deumi headed home Olcan’s corner-kick in the 51st minute to make it 2-0 for Gaziantepspor. Sitting on a two-goal cushion, the home side spent most of remaining minutes in their own half and allowed Beşiktaş to control the match. After forwards Tello and Nobre came in for Holosko and Fink, the Eagles finally showed some signs of life up front. Substitute Nobre had two wide-open changes to bring the Black and White back into the game, but somehow managed to waste both of them. Gaziantepspor successfully played out the dying minutes without a major incident to grab all three points with a goal in each half.
