Match Quotes from Mustafa Denizli

After the Gaziantepspor match, Beşiktaş Manager Mustafa Denizli talked to the press:

“There no clear favourites in this season’s matches, so the teams must be prepared for all three results. Especially, when your opponent is playing beyond your expectations, you know you are up against a wall. Tonight, we fought well and had enough chances to win the game, but were denied by a mixture of poor finishing and good goalkeeping. Now, we have to defeat Galatasaray next week in order not to fall further behind in the standings.
But if we want to stay in this race, we need to perform much better out there. In the first half, we passed the ball extremely poorly and had a hard time getting any momentum going on offense. The early goal forced us to take some risks, so we left big gaps at the back. We made better use of the flanks in the second half, but this time poor finishing kept us off the score sheet. We can still make up for this unexpected loss, if we play our usual game. I‘d like to congratulate Gaziantepspor for the outstanding performance they put in tonight. Of course, our place in the standings for this week depends on the results of other matches. We now must wait until the Monday night to see where we are. No Beşiktaş fan should be alarmed; we will soon start taking charge of our own destiny.
If I wasn’t fit to manage my team, I wouldn’t be here. Although I got out of the bed a little bit early, I am strictly following the doctor’s orders and not getting overexcited during the match or over yelling from the sidelines. I think being with my players is the best medicine for my recovery. At this stage my job is more important than my health and my team needs me. Football requires self-sacrifice sometimes.”
