Following Beşiktaş’s 1-0 away win against Antalyaspor, Manager Mustafa Denizli assessed the Eagles’ performance for the press:
“Coming into tonight’s match, we knew it wasn’t going to be an easy one; because our opponent beat the current league leader Fenerbahçe by four goals here few days ago. They are a tough team to beat, especially on their home turf. They not only press up front, but play a physical game at the back with strong presence in the air. Nonetheless, despite of all these disadvantages, we put in a strong effort tonight and deserved to win. Unlike the first half, with this valuable away we’ve made good start into season’s second half. Let’s hope we can take this positive momentum to our future matches as well. We definitely could’ve scored more goals in this match, but we are still pleased with this narrow victory since they are hard to come by for us these days, especially on the road. In consideration of today’s weather and pitch conditions, we planned to start with quick and technical players and bring on our physical ones later on. This strategy worked, because as the game went on, Antalya got tried and left big gaps at the back, giving us several chances to score late in the game. We are far from our top form, but I believe we are on the right tract.”
