Büyükşehir Belediyespor 1 – 0 Beşiktaş

The Black Eagles suffered 1-0 upset to the Büyükşehir Belediyespor on Day 4 of the Ziraatbank Turkish Cup.

The match took place at the Istanbul Ataturk Olympics Stadium in front of a sparse crowd that opted to stay home and watch the game on TV instead of braving the cold and rainy weather. The teams spent most of the first half playing cautious football and trying to gain control of midfield. While Büyükşehir never ventured outside of their own end, the Black and White tested the home side’s net with long range shots from Bobo and Holosko. But Beşiktaş had to wait until the closing stages to create any clear-cut chances. Five minutes before half time, Bobo almost drew first blood with a fierce right-footed strike, but Büyükşehir keeper Hasagiç made a brilliant finger-tip save and sent the ball out for a corner. Then Beşiktaş’s German midfielder Fink hit the crossbar from 6 yards out to end the first 45 minutes in a 0-0 draw.
Büyükşehir Belediyespor had a much better start into the second half and came close to scoring with İskender, but his hard drive was denied by Beşiktaş keeper Ramazan. A couple of minutes later, however, the same İskender managed to beat Ramazan in a one-on-one situation to put his team a goal up in the match. The Black and White brought on Serdar Özkan and Nihat for Holosko and Fink after the goal to bolster the front the line were unable to find the back of the net; as Büyükşehir held out for a 1-0 victory that knocked Beşiktaş out of this season’s Turkish Cup.
