Beşiktaş Cola Turka 70, Unics Kazan 98

The visiting Unics Kazan of Russia overwhelmed Beşiktaş Cola Turka, 98-70, in Eurocup Group D Game 5 tonight.

Having given up all hopes of qualifying for the next round, the Eagles made a surprisingly good start into the game and grabbed a 4-0 edge after two minutes. But from there on, they lost their scoring touch and went nearly three minutes without a basket to trail 17-4 at the halfway point. Not allowing Beşiktaş Cola Turka any chance to regroup, the Russian team continued to roll rest of the stanza as their lead grew to 24-9 by the end of first.
Throughout the second quarter, the Black and White had a hard time to contain the sure-handed Marco Popovic, whose stellar play helped the visitors push the visitors’ advantage to 26 points at 52-26 with less than minute remaining in the half. In an attempt to get back into the game, the Eagles made a couple of jumpers in the waining seconds but were still down by a huge 22 points, 52-30, going into the locker room at the break.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka tried to stage a comeback behind Engin Atsür’s three-pointers in the third, but Unics Kazan refused to get caught and received consecutive layups from Lyday in the dying minutes to lead 74-47 with one quarter to play.
Playing without their top-scorer Mire Chatman, the Eagles showed no sign of recovery in the fourth as the Russians waltzed their way to a 98-70 road victory.
