Beşiktaş Cola Turka:87 Galatasaray Cafe Crown:96

The visiting Galatasaray Cafe Crown defeated Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball, 96-87, in a Week 13 matchup of the Beko Basketball League at the Akatlar Cola Turka Arena.

The visitors started the Istanbul derby well and raced out to an 11-2 lead after three minutes on consecutive jumpers by Rancik, Jasaitis and Washington. The Black and White tried to keep the score close with Baxter and Chatman, but the yellow and red team did not take its foot off the gas pedal and was safely up by 10 at 18-8 with 3:10 left, on its way to a 25-17 first-quarter advantage.
The teams settled for outside shots early in the second, but Galatasaray was still in front, 35-27, midway through the quarter. Then the visitors’ defense put clamps on Beşiktaş’s offense as the gap suddenly grew to 11 points, 49-38, entering the final minute. While the Black Eagles struggled offensively, the yellow and red kept the pace of the game in check and took a 10-point, 51-41, cushion into intermission.
The start of third quarter saw the Eagles rally back behind an 8-2 run which brought them within four, 53-49, with less than 7:00 remaining. Then, due to a pair of turnovers, the visiting Galatasaray Cafe Crown’s lead quickly disappeared and a layup by Baxter tied the game at 56-56 midway through the stanza. From that point on, the momentum shifted into Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s favor as Engin Atsür and Fletcher each drained a three-pointer to put the Black and White up, 61-57, with 3:05 to go. Despite blowing a 10-point first half cushion, Galatasaray regrouped in the closing stages and got a last-second bucket from the red-hot Rancik to jump back ahead by two, 67-65, heading into the final period of play.
Sparked by a boisterous local crowd, the Eagles opened the fourth with a 7-0 spurt to establish a 5-point advantage two minutes into the quarter. But the cross-town visitors refused to go away and came back to regain the lead at 82-79 on back-to-back jumpers from Wilkinson and Rancik with les than 4:00 to play. The remaining minutes were a hard fought affair with the Galatasaray Cafe Crown holding an 88-85 edge entering the final 60 seconds of regulation. Beşiktaş Cola Turka made a last-ditch attempt to salvage the game, but the sure-handed Wilkinson stepped out and hit a number of key jumpers down the stretch to lift the visitors to a 96-87 victory.
