Beşiktaş Cola Turka 107, Banvit 88

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team demolished Banvit, 107-88, in a Week 11 matchup at Akatlar Cola Turka Arena.

After Lance Williams and Lonny Baxter swapped baskets to start the game, the Eagles took an 8-6 lead with 7:10 remaining. Beşiktaş Cola Turka attempted to pull away with consecutive layups, but sure-handed Keith Simmons teamed up with  Yunus Çankaya and  Barış Hersek to keep the score close as the teams entered the final two minutes tied at 18 a piece. Nevertheless, a pair of last-second Engin Atsür free throws gave the Black and White a 25-23 edge at the end of the first.
Mire Chatman and Lonny Baxter started hitting from outside early in the second to push the lead to 31-27 two minutes into the quarter. Then Cevher Özer stepped out and drained back-to-back threes from allover the court, but a string of free throws by Williams managed to hold off Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s strong surge. As the clock winding down, Mire Chatman drove to the hoop for a layup to put the Eagles ahead, 56-54, going into the locker room at the intermission.
The Black and White continued to set the pace in the third, and with less than 8:00 to play in quarter, Haluk Yıldırım and Engin Atsür combined for 7 points to widen the margin to 4 points at 63-59. Banvit tried to remain within striking distance with Williams’ consecutive layups but could not find an answer to the hot-shooting duo of Cevher Özer and Engin Atsür as they put to together a late Beşiktaş rally that opened up an 18-point cushion for the Eagles at 86-68 entering the final frame.
While Banvit desperately played catch-up, the Black and White held its ground and never let the visitors get closer in the fourth to waltz to a comfortable 107-88 victory.
