December 2009

Dear Beşiktaş Supporters,
I am sure you are all enjoying the privilege of being a Beşiktaş fan these days. The difference between Beşiktaş and others has been clear as black and white. Although, we’ve had a rather slow start into the season—and faced heavy criticism for it—we are now embracing the successes of our be-loved childhood club once again.
The traditional Beşiktaş principles and our unwavering loyalty to their cause have kept us united and strong in those difficult days, enlightening our way as we’ve successfully overcome one obstacle after another. Since we are now back on tract, we can sit back and reflect on some of the lessons learned from the past weeks.
Respecting and upholding one’s well-intended efforts and hard work have always been at the forefront of our principles.  Those of us who save no effort in creating and providing solutions to Beşiktaş’s needs and problems not only set a commendable example to other clubs and deserve to be praised but also develop a greater sense of unity among our community members.
Unfortunately, it is not easy to forget all that unfair and unjustified criticism we received during those days, because they showed no respect for what we were trying to achieve and hurt our beloved Beşiktaş on and off the field. This self-destructive behavior, which had begun during Süleyman Seba’s presidency, have caused a temporary disunity within our club and undermined our ability to move Beşiktaş forward.
The rowdy fans, who has made a habit of hurling insults at us from the stands and wish to change the club management every time Beşiktaş struggles on the pitch, surely do not represent the majority of our supporters. Nevertheless, their behavior is totally unacceptable, and true Beşiktaş fans must keep their distance from them if they want to help their club. A true-blood Beşiktaş fan always support his or her club in good or bad times. All of us must adhere to this principle at all times, regardless of who is in office.
Acknowledging our gratitude to those who work unconditionally and tirelessly for the Club has always been an inseparable part of the Black and White culture—a good tradition to pass on the next Beşiktaş generations.
Dear Beşiktaş Supporters,
History is rewritten by Beşiktaş.
As you will all recall, we staged an unprecedented comeback in the 2008-09 season and ended up winning both the Turkcell Super League and Fortis Turkish Cup titles. We are set to rewrite the history of Turkish football in 2009 -10 season as well.
We’ve just made the English football history by defeating mighty Manchester United 1-0 in the Champions League on their home ground, ending their 23-match unbeaten run.
Thanks to the confidence brought on by years of experience and countless success stories, the Black Eagles will continue make their presence felt in Europe every time they stepped on the pitch.
The good football and true sportsmanship we displayed against our cross-town rival Fenerbahçe in last week’s derby have made the match a memorable one for all Turkish football-lovers.
With this opportunity, I congratulate all our players, coaching staff and fans for the highest-level of sportsmanship and team sprit they showed in our recent league, Fenerbahçe and Manchester United wins. You’ve helped us keep our head high; you deserve the best.
With my kindest love and regards,
Yıldırım Demirören
Beşiktaş Chairman
