Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s basketball fell 74-68 to visiting Çankaya University in a Week 6 game of the TBBL at Cola Turka Arena.
The Lady Eagles opened the game with consecutive layups from Sandra Mandir, only to see Megan Frazee and Dilek Ünüvar successfully attack the offensive glass and build a 9-point cushion at 16-7 with under 3:00 left. They tried to get back into the game with a series of jumpers by Duravka Dacic but were still down 23-15 at the end of the first. The start of the second quarter saw the visitors from the Capital City connect on back-to- back jumpers to extend their lead to 14 points, 31-17, just after two minutes. But after the hot-shooting duo of Gergena Branzova and Shanvonte Zellous helped the Black and White regroup with easy layups under the hoop, Lindsay Bowen and Dubravka Dacic ran off a string of unanswered points to close the gap to 2 points, 35-33, at the 17:15 mark. The teams traded baskets rest of the way, but Cankaya University refused to get caught as it led 43-40 at halftime.
At the onset of the third, Sandra Mandir and Esra Erden both drilled three pointers from downtown to put the Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Basketball back on top for the first time since the opening quarter. Despite a number of Dacic layups, the Eagles used the scoring of Megan Frazee in the painted area to take a 50-49 advantage at the halfway point. The remainder of the quarter was a back-and-forth battle, but Megan Frazee continued to pour it in down the stretch to give Cankaya University a 65-54 edge heading into the final frame.
Both teams had a hard time getting to the basket early in the fourth and were held to1 point each for nearly four minutes until Lindsay Bowen stepped up and unleashed a three-pointer for the visitors to end the draught. From then on, Cankaya University took complete control and held off a late charge from Beşiktaş Cola Turka to walk way with a 74-68 victory.
