Following Beşiktaş’s historic win against Manchester United, Manager Mustafa Denizli reflected on the match:

“I dedicate this win to all Turkish fans wherever they may be. After seeing CSKA beat Wolfsburg earlier, we knew we had to win this match to stay alive. We were all focused on winning and fought real hard to achieve it. We never lost our composure and played real smart. As always, our defense stood out successfully once again. Although we were forced to make a couple of unexpected substations in the second half, everyone stuck to our game plan perfectly.
Not too many teams can beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. This is a victory for Turkish football and we are all proud of going back home with our heads high. We want to keep our European campaign alive by winning our final group match against CSKA Moscow at home. We’ve come this far ahead and we don’t want to blow it away. I think this win will be a good present for all of us before the upcoming religious holiday.
Our Prime Minister just called our President and me and congratulated us on our victory. Beşiktaş is a Turkish team, so all Turks should join in the celebrations tonight, because this win belongs not only to Beşiktaş fans but to the whole Turkish nation. It is nice to see that everybody is going to be real proud after this match. This is a historic moment for Beşiktaş and Turkish football.”
